Low Carb Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes are a classic, easy meal, but it’s not so easy on the keto diet. Try out our low carb version and enjoy this childhood favorite the healthy way!

Servings: 4 Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

 


INGREDIENTS:

For the Buns:
  • 1 ¼ cup almond flour
  • 5 tbsp ground psyllium husk powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ¼ cup boiling water
  • 3 egg whites
  • sesame seeds (optional)
For the Meat Sauce:
    • For the Meat Sauce:
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 medium yellow onion
    • 4 garlic cloves
    • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
    • 1 serving LonoLife Beef Bone Broth
    • 3 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tbsp chili powder
    • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
    • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
    • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Optional: mozzarella cheese for serving.

DIRECTIONS:

1) Preheat the oven to 350°F. Mix almond flour, ground psyllium husk powder, baking powder, and sea salt into a bowl.

2) Add apple cider vinegar, boiling water and eggs whites and mix for about 30 seconds.

3) Form the dough into 4 balls (8 if you want small sliders), sprinkle with sesame seeds, and bake for 50-60 minutes. To tell if they are done, tap the bottom of the bun. It should sound hollow when it's done. Cool before slicing.

4) In a large skillet on medium heat, saute onions and garlic until softened.

5) Add the ground beef and LonoLife Beef Bone Broth and cook completely (about 8 minutes).

6) Add tomato paste, chili powder, dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.

7) Simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes, or until most liquid is reduced.

8) Serve in freshly baked buns and top with mozzarella cheese!
